There’s a lot to say about the Swedes as they enter the 2014 Olympics, but everyone can agree on one thing, Team Sweden should not be a 4th-place team right now.

In fact, I would consider them heavy favourites in Sochi. The amount of skill and experience this team has should not be underestimated by any team in the tournament.

Entering the tournament, four of Sweden’s top six forwards would be well past 33, and all of them have emerged as admirable leaders in the NHL.

Did I also mention that Team Sweden could also potentially consist of four NHL captains? I don’t think there’s any international teams right now with better mentors on and off the ice as Sweden.

Expect the Sedins to again lead the way for Sweden in 2014, and there will always be a debate about who should play right-wing alongside them. It’s highly possible we see the twins on the PP with Alfredsson as they’ve shown great chemistry in last year’s All-Star Game. Zetterberg and Franzen should lead the second line, and when they’re clicking, the Swedes are bound for success. Gabriel Landeskog will probably be penciled in as a third or fourth liner who can provide both grit and goals.

If you thought the Swedish attack was already scary, take a look at their defence corps. No team in the tournament comes even close to matching up against Sweden’s blueline. Five of Team Sweden’s top six are number-one defencemen with their respective teams. We are talking about five guys playing at the back-end that can easily score 40-plus points every season.

Add in rising talents Victor Hedman and Adam Larsson and Sweden won’t just boast a high-scoring blueline, but a stingy one too.

Sweden already looks set having Henrik Lundqvist in-goal, but now with the emergence of Viktor Fasth as he’s taking the Pacific Division by storm, the Tre Konor looks even more ready.
