Rex Ryan has announced that Mark Sanchez will start this Sunday against the Jaguars. This decision comes 3 days after Sanchez was benched for his horrible play on Sunday at home vs the Cardinals. Sanchez threw 3 INTS and had nothing going for him and the offense, so Rex Ryan pulled him and interested 3rd string QB Greg McElroy into the game.
McElroy came into the game and sparked the Jets as he lead them down the field and scored the only Touchdown of the game on a 1 yard pass. Rex was in a huge dilemma this week going back and forth to see which QB he should start, but he has decided to stick it out with Sanchez for now.
The Jets owe Sanchez $8.25 million next season whether they like it or not so, this was the smart move because maybe the benching was what Sanchez needed to get back on track. If Sanchez struggles early it might be it for him, because Jacksonville’s defense is just awful, and if he can’t have a good game against them then the Jets will be looking for anyway to get rid of him this off-season.
Expect McElroy to enter the game if Sanchez does struggle, Rex has made it clear by his actions, that he does not want to play Tim Tebow.
Rex is giving Sanchez his last chance and if Sanchez performs, then at least they know the finished on a high note, if he crumbles then expect major changes next year. On the subject of Tebow it will be very interesting to see if the Jets use him this game in Jacksonville, because the Jags might be looking to acquire Tebow in the off season.
Tebow back in his hometown could mean major ticket sales for the Jags, but they have to see something good in him that can make him seem serviceable. Expect to see Tebow for a few “wildcat” snaps and maybe throw a pass or 2, so the Jets can get something for him in the offseason.
This 4 weeks are like the TV show Survivor if guys don’t perform they will not be back with the team next year.
